Scholastic is a global publisher and retailer of children’s books, operating through various channels including retail and schools. In Australia, the Scholastic Fair business supports event-based Book Fairs at schools, allowing them to present carefully selected titles for children of all ages. Schools raise money from these Fairs through commissions on book sales and can receive their commission in cash, books for the library, or through Scholastic rewards to purchase products from Scholastics educational offerings.

The Scholastic Fairs Tap and Go app has been developed to enable School Book Fair Organisers to accept credit card payments on their iPhones during the school Book Fairs. Payments are processed directly to Scholastic via the payment processor, Stripe.

The application offers a simple mechanism for processing payments. The Book Fair Organiser registers on the app, verifies their identity using confidential Fair information and email verification, and, after verification, enters the sale amount. The customer can then tap their NFC-compatible credit card, phone, or device for payment. Receipts can be sent via email, and refunds can be processed through the app if required. The total sales history for the Fair is visible to the Fair organiser.
